The centrist politicians send office money to the war in Ukraine

The EU parliamentarians receive SEK 50,000 a month to a special account for general expenses. But no one from the parliament checks the expenses, it is voluntary to report to the public and you do not have to pay back what is left over.

Members from L, MP, S and V state to SVT that they will pay back if there is money left over, which seems to be the case for several.

One million left in the account

Emma Wiesner has a million left in her account now that her mandate is coming to an end.

    – My first thought was to send the million back to parliament. But then it goes to the parliament’s administration.

    But that’s the point, right?

    – I, but we have reasoned and come to the conclusion that we want to send the surplus to Ukraine. We want to contribute to as much Swedish steel to Ukraine as possible.

The Center Party’s other member of parliament, Abir Al-Sahlani, will also donate leftover money to Ukraine.

“Very many members do not report at all”

But according to a decision by the EU Parliament’s Bureau, the money may not finance grants or gifts of a political nature.

And despite the fact that you do not have to report or pay back what is left over, there are therefore examples where the EU Parliament has forced members to pay back money.

    – But very many members do not report at all, and put the money in their pockets, It is also not a correct way to use the tax money, says Emma Wiesner.
