The central bank warns of a new wave of inflation

The hope that the Swedes’ economy is on the way to recovery may be threatened by the US’s threat of trade tariffs against the rest of the world, according to Handelsbanken.

The bank’s chief economist Christina Nyman warns that escalated trade conflicts in the world could threaten the recovery in the economy and “breathe life into inflation”.

Handelsbanken believes that the Riksbank will only implement an interest rate cut in 2025, and then leave the interest rate unchanged at 2.25 percent going forward.

    – With inflation on target and an economic recovery that is expected to gain momentum in 2025, we do not see the need for more interest rate cuts, says Christina Nyman in a press release.

Despite an uncertain environment, the bank assesses that there are conditions for Sweden’s economy to recover in the long term.
