The cause of the fire at the Swedish water park

The fire at the Oceana water park probably started during welding work.

The fire at the under-construction Oceana water park in Gothenburg probably started during welding work, reports the Swedish Accident Board.

They reported on it, for example Aftonbladet and SVT.

According to the accident board, the pipes under the water slide were welded together using the so-called resistance spot welding method.

In resistance spot welding, the pieces to be joined are pressed together using electric current and pressure.

Plastic water slides are very flammable material. The accident board suspects that the fire spread from the pipes to the water slide and further into the other facilities of the water park.

The accident board stresses that the investigation is still ongoing.

The Oceana water park caught fire in February. The video taken from the scene shows that the large water slide was in open flames.

At least 22 people were slightly injured in the fire.

The experts interviewed by SVT previously suspected that the fire started from a gas explosion.

The Oceana water park was built as part of the Liseberg amusement park in the Heden district. Liseberg is the largest amusement park in the Nordic countries.
