Little does Jocelyn know that she is dating the leader of a modern and dangerous cult. A toxic relationship riddled with sex, violence, and power games develops between them – and will bring Jocelyn back to the forefront of success.

The #1 pop star is also the creator of The Idol. The singer-songwriter, best known as The Weeknd, plays the club owner and self-help guru who came to LA out of nowhere and has a (far too) loyal band of admirers around him. One of them will soon be Jocelyn.

Blackpink member Jennie plays Dyanne

Jocelyn has made it to the top of The Idol where dancer/singer Dyanne wants to go. This is played by a real-life K-Pop star: Jennie Kim, aka Jennie from Blackpink, is the backing dancer who stands in Jocelyn’s shadow. Dyanne catches the eye of record company rep Nikki (Jane Adams). Will Jocelyn get any competition from her?

YouTuber and singer Troye Sivan plays Xander, Jocelyn’s close confidant

Troye Sivan knows from his own experience what it’s like to become famous when you’re far too young. The Australian singer drew the attention of millions of viewers on YouTube when he was a teenager and has plenty of experience as an actor. In The Idol he plays the creative director of pop star Jocelyn, who strives for her rehabilitation after public scandals.

Singer-songwriter Moses Sumney plays Tedros’ follower Izaak

He is one of Tedros’ followers: the charismatic Xander, who is dating Jocelyn’s best friend and assistant Leia (Rachel Sennott). Xander is played by Moses Sumney, himself a gifted musician. Sumney’s music has been featured on shows such as Westworld, Orange is the New Black and Euphoria.

Other music stars in the cast of The Idol include TV on the Radio singer Tunde Adebimpe and The All-American Rejects frontman Tyson Ritter, whose role is currently unknown

Cult director Eli Roth plays a concert promoter

By the way, one of the most recognizable faces in the cast – at least for film fans – belongs to Eli Roth. The Tarantino buddy, Hostel director and Inglourious Basterds actor is a cynical concert promoter in The Idol.

In addition, the cast of the series impresses with a whole bar of excellent character actors. These include Hari Nef as a reporter, as well as Hank Azaria (Godzilla), Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek), Rachel Sennott (Bodies Bodies Bodies) and Suzanna Son (Red Rocket).
