He is one of the greatest writers in the Portuguese language, his name has circulated for the Nobel Prize for Literature. Mozambican Mia Couto publishes The Cartographer of Absences. This is perhaps the most personal novel of this white author, engaged in the 1970s in the ranks of Frelimo, the guerrilla movement which campaigned for the independence of Mozambique, against Portuguese colonization.
