In France, no return to normal for car dealers. After two years of pandemic, the difficulties continue. In its latest report for the month of July 2022, the Automotive Platform records a 7% drop in sales of new individual cars, compared to July 2021, a month which was already historically low.
The months follow one another and look alike for the French automotive sector. Since the beginning of the year, the market for the sale of new cars has fallen by 15%, enough to make dealers dizzy. The causes of this decline are multiple, one crisis chasing another. First the pandemic, which cut off the desires and sometimes the needs of buyers.
Electronic component supply problems have also limited the supply of new cars. The result is that consumers then turned more to the second-hand market, up sharply in 2021.
Inflation and new regulations
In addition to these problems, which have been clearly identified for two years, there is now that of inflation, established at nearly 7% in France for the month of July. The uncertainties about the future and the difficulties in terms of purchasing power thus weighed down the market even further.
Finally, according to several experts in the sector, we must also take into account the fears of buyers regarding “ the evolution of regulations “. The European Parliament voted last June to ban the sale of thermal vehicles from 2035, leaving buyers undecided.
