The captain’s goal decided once and for all – Inter advanced to the Champions League final

The captains goal decided once and for all Inter

Inter has advanced to the Champions League final after a 13-year hiatus. Inter already led 2–0 after the opening half, but Lautaro Martinez’s goal secured the place in the final once and for all.

Italian Inter Milan beat local opponent AC Milan 1–0 in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final at San Siro and advanced to the final 3–0 on aggregate.

In Milan’s intense local struggle, Inter defended the 2–0 lead they acquired last week. Milan voraciously tried to narrow it down right from the first minutes, but Inter’s keeper Andre Onana kept a clean sheet in the first half. Inter also had their own places, but Mike Maignan rejected, among other things Edin Dzeko and Nicolo Barella shots right at the beginning of the match.

In the second half, Milan’s places were on the cards. Instead, Inter pressed on and succeeded in scoring. Came into the game from the exchange Romelu Lukaku found well Lautaro Martinez’s from inside the penalty area. The duo cut the Milan defense to pieces, and the Inter captain’s shot from the front corner sank behind Maigna’s back in the 74th minute of the match.

The last time Inter was in the Champions League final was in 2010. At that time, the team defeated Bayern Munich in the final match. Milan has been waiting for a place in the final even longer, as Milan, who won the Champions League seven times, last played in the final in 2007. Now they have to wait at least one more year for the final.

The other finalist will be decided on Wednesday when Manchester City and Real Madrid meet in Manchester. The opening part of the match ended in a 1-1 draw in Madrid a week ago. The Champions League final will be played in Istanbul on June 10.
