The passenger ferry from Travemünde in Germany collided with the pier as the vessel was entering the port.
– The captain went down to check how things had gone and then the ground gave way and he ended up in the water, says Anders Lennholmrescue leader at the Maritime and Air Rescue Centre, to the newspaper.
He was in the water about ten minutes before a ladder was sent down and he was able to come up. Both the vessel and the pier were damaged in the collision, but the captain was uninjured and did not require treatment.
— I was told that he took a hot shower, says Lennholm.
The police do not suspect any crime behind the incident. The pier must be inspected and repaired.
