If in Lyon the canuts designate the silk weavers until the 19th century, the word qualifies these typical buildings of the Croix-Rousse. five or six stories high, canut buildings house old apartment-workshops, characterized by high ceilings that could accommodate imposing looms, high windows, exposed beams and “louvres”.
