– It is of course nice that our candy is in demand, says Johan Barkinge, who is factory manager at Bubs in Jönköping.
Loose candy has been a phenomenon since the 80s, when the Swedish Food Agency began allowing self-picking for customers. In Sweden, approximately 15 kilos of sweets are eaten per person per year. Recently, the Swedish loose candy has also suddenly gained an international arena thanks to the internet phenomenon “swedish candy” which was a big hit on TikTok and Instagram.
According to the company, there is no shortage of their candy in Sweden right now, but there is in the United States where they deliver through wholesalers.
In the clip above, you can hear Johan Barkinge tell how they are doing to cope with the increased demand.
