Ice rinks and “curling ice” will prevail in several parts of the country.
Now the Swedish Transport Administration calls for calm and tranquility in traffic.
– When it’s stressful and you’re in a hurry, the crazy decisions appear, says Bengt Olsson, the Swedish Transport Agency’s press manager.
The days with the most traffic after the Christmas celebration
0:53
Tomorrow, travelers will start heading home after Christmas celebrations around the country.
But it is important to take it carefully out on the roads. SMHI has issued a warning for sudden ice slippage in large parts of the country and in several places it will be slippery.
The ice sheet applies from midnight on the 25th to 10 a.m. in Jämtland and Västernorrland north to southern Norrbotten County.
“Difficult road conditions are expected during the morning of Christmas Day in connection with the passing of rain or freezing rain,” writes SMHI.
“Lots of difficult weather from the Atlantic”
Trafikverket’s press manager Bengt Olsson now urges everyone who is going out on the road to take it easy, and says that more areas than northern Sweden will be affected by slippage.
– Now we have bad weather in Bohuslän. Lots of rough weather is coming in from the Atlantic and there will be rain on cold roads. Then it will be like curling ice, he says.
He says that they salt in several directions, but that it takes a while before it has a proper effect on the road. Above all, you need to take it carefully during the morning hours and evenings.

The prompt: Big differences
In addition, he sends with an invitation:
– The important thing is to keep an eye on the local weather report. Even if you keep track of SMHI’s warnings, there are big local differences. Find them out.
At its worst, it is when the temperatures are between minus two and plus three, Bengt Olsson explains.
– Then it’s a combination of ice and water and it’s a great combination for ice skating, he says.

Do you work proactively in any way?
– We are out and salting in advance as far as we can. However, it is difficult to know exactly which road and which section of a road where we can do more than salt.
He believes that it is difficult to know in advance which roads are affected the worst, and where more support is needed. This can only be done when problems arise.
– There will be roads that are slippery and spots that are slippery. And you have to be aware of that when you get behind the wheel yourself, says Bengt Olsson.
Then he hopes that everything happens at a slightly slower pace, now that it’s Christmas.
– Also have a slower pace on the road and follow the traffic rhythm and keep your distance and it will go just fine. When it’s stressful and you’re in a hurry, the crazy decisions appear.
