The law was a proposal by GroenLinks and D66. By abolishing the company seats, they want to make the water board management greener and more democratic. Weierink: “Greening is important, but not the core task of a water board,” explains Weierink. There will be water board elections again on March 15, but Weierink doubts whether the law will have come into effect by then. “That gives us four years to talk to politicians about whether this can be done differently.”
