Alisa Vainio the fight was enough for 22nd place in the women’s marathon of the World Athletics Championships. Vainio ran a time of 2:32:14 and was gratifyingly the fourth best European.

– It was a challenging race, even though I like to run. This was pretty bad, Vainio referred to the very hot weather in Budapest. The temperature rose to 29 degrees in the final moments of the marathon.

The 25-year-old Vainio’s pace slowed down in the final stages of the marathon.

– I couldn’t keep a very good pace. But I fought and I’m happy with that. Considering the weather, my time was good. My stomach stung at times. His legs were tight, he tightened his hamstrings and calves, Vainio described his tough journey.

What do you think about next summer’s European Championships in Rome?

– We have to see what the situation will be in a year. But I’m satisfied when I took a couple of tough European scalps, Vainio estimates.

– Now there was a tougher list of participants than last year at the Eugene WC marathon. I am satisfied that I won last year’s European champion (Poland Aleksandra Lisowska), with whom I ran a few laps together, Vainio said.

A jackpot for Ethiopian women

Ethiopian women took a double victory in the marathon. Amane Beriso Shankule ran to victory in 2:24:23. Gotytom Gebreslase completed the jackpot with his silver. Moroccan Fatima Ezzahra Gardadi ran for bronze.

Participated in his first World Cup competitions Nina Chydenius finished in 54th place. Chydenius picked up his pace at the end and ran a time of 2:42:36.

– It went really well. I was prepared for the worst, but there was no need to go to the extremes of risk, Chydenius thought.
