The brown throated bird spotted for the first time in Finland

Lintu had traveled from Finland on a Swedish ship to Stockholm before his death.

The first brown-throated hawk ever seen in Finland has died, Swedish Public Radio reported (Sveriges Radio). The bird was spotted on Monday, August 7, on the deck of a Border Guard patrol ship sailing in the open sea off Helsinki.

The bird had swallowed the fishing hook

According to the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation, a fishing hook was found inside the brownie.

Chairman of the association focused on saving game birds in Stockholm Viktor Persson told Swedish public radio that the bird was given care after it arrived in Stockholm. Despite the treatment, the bird’s condition deteriorated.

An X-ray showed a fishing hook in the bird’s digestive system. The hook had sunk in so deep that the brown sole could no longer be saved.

The animal died in Sweden on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.

A rare guest in Pohjola

The red bream was the first representative of its species ever observed in the Baltic Sea. The species breeds in tropical oceans and its nearest breeding places to Finland are in Cape Verde and the islands of the Red Sea.

The species has been seen occasionally on the Atlantic coast of Spain and Portugal. In recent years, random sightings have also been made, for example, in France, Germany, the British Isles and, last fall, in Sweden.

Spokesperson for Birdlife Finland Jan Södersved previously estimated to that the individual seen off Helsinki was less than a year old and could have ended up in Finland with the strong winds.
