The breakfast Directive arrives to support beekeepers

(Finance) – The right perspective is the one voted yesterday by a large majority European Parliamentmeeting in plenary session on Strasbourg: for honey you need aclear and transparent label, with the list of countries of origin and the percentages that make up the blends. This is yet another concrete step towards the defense of beekeepers and consumers who will also be able to count on a European reference laboratory for the development of anti-fraud analytical methods and on advanced traceability systems according to the “blockchain” model.

To sanction this delicate parliamentary step favorable vote of 522 MEPs (only 13 against and 65 abstentions) from each political group and from each of the 27 Member States. The European Parliament thus approves its negotiating position on a proposal from the European Commission which is expected to lead, during 2024, to the revision of the rules for the labeling of fruit, jams and honey.

A satisfying achievement for Confagricoltura and FAI (Italian Beekeepers Federation) who followed the dossier – made up of complex technical aspects, which only experts were able to fully grasp – working to support the demands of the production sector.
