The Boys fans know actor Jack Quaid as the lovable tech specialist Hughie. Cartoon connoisseurs also appreciate him as the voice of Boimler from Star Trek: Lower Decks or Superman from My Adventures With Superman.

But Quaid didn’t just want to work in the recording studio man of Steel And so he tried unsuccessfully to get the DC superhero role.

Filmmaker James Gunn is currently on the verge of shaking up the DCEU under his leadership. This includes a new Superman film, for which super voice actor Quaid was among those in the running for the lead role. He recalls this in the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via ComicBook ):

If you fit the description, then that’s just how it is. I didn’t get very far. I had recorded a video with myself […]. I remember how I [die Einladung zum] audition and thought, ‘Yeah, I’m the voice of Superman in a cartoon, but I don’t really fit physically.’

Of course, we have known for a long time that his muscular colleague David Corenswet will be the new Clark Kent aka Superman. There is even a first picture of him in costume. For Quaid, this is a good choice on the part of those responsible for casting:

Totally cool, especially because I know David Corenswet a little bit. We did a series pilot together years ago that didn’t come to fruition. But he’s one of those people where you think, ‘Oh, yeah, if they ever do another [Superman] need, it will probably be him.’ This guy is Superman!

Quaid doesn’t seem to hold grudges at all. And why should he? He stars in one of the most successful superhero series, with another season still to go, and can’t complain about a lack of work. Look for him in upcoming film projects called Heads of State, Nowhere Men and Novocaine, which are currently in post-production.
