The fourth season of Amazon’s superhero satire The Boys has been complete on Prime Video since July 18, 2024, leaving fans with a huge cliffhanger and numerous unanswered questions that are already making the wait for the series to end with season 5 a torment. As has now been announced, The Boys was able to set some surprising streaming records for the season 4 finale.

As TVLine reports, The Boys was able to reach number 1 in the highly competitive Nielsen streaming charts for the first time in the history of the Amazon series for the finale of the fourth season. The superhero satire thus broke 4 records at once and even surpassed all previous series hits from Prime Video by 2 points:

Nielsen Ratings or Nielsen Media Research has been measuring US television ratings since the 1950s. Since then, the measurements and rankings have been among the most important indicators of the success and failure of US series. For the past four years, Nielsen has also been publishing weekly top lists for streaming series.
A direct Comparison between Amazon series However, there are some hurdles. For example, the action hit Reacher was able to achieve a massive 1.84 billion minutes watched in one week when it launched in 2022 (via THR ). However, in this case, all episodes of the season were released at once. The measurements for the entire year are more meaningful.
Last year, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan was the most watched Amazon series with a total of 12.8 billion minutes (via Variety ). In 2022, according to the Nielsen report, this spot went to The Boys with 10.6 billion minutes. For comparison: Netflix’s Stranger Things reached a gigantic 52 billion minutes in the same year and Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series was watched for “only” 9.4 billion minutes.
When and how will The Boys universe continue after season 4 on Amazon?
It will be a while before we find out how The Boys series finale will differ from the end of the comics. The 5th season will probably not until 2026 on Prime Video. But there is also good news.
Already in the course of next year the 2nd season of the spin-off series Gen Vwhich will give us a first glimpse into Homelander’s redesigned America. In addition, a prequel series ordered: Vough Rising tells a bloody Supes story with Soldier Boy and Stormfront in the 50s. But we still have to wait a little longer for this chapter of The Boys.
