In a few days, Amazon Prime Video will continue with The Boys – a brutal superhero series that hardly holds back with depictions of violence, but at the same time has something to say about power, corruption and reactionary politics.
With its edgy presentation, the subversive series However, it also appeals to an audience that feels offended by the political orientation of the format. Showrunner Eric Kripke doesn’t care.
The Boys showrunner stands by his superhero satire on Amazon
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, The Boys showrunner summed it up like this:
I obviously have a perspective and I’m not too shy to bring that to the show. I’m fine with someone wanting to call the show ‘woke’ or whatever. Go watch something else. But I’m certainly not going to hold back or apologize for what we’re doing. Some people who watch think Homelander is a hero. What else can you say? The show is a lot of things, but it’s not subtle. If that’s the message someone takes away from it, I’ll give up.

At the same time, Kripke hardly believes that his series can change the world:
It’s catharsis. I have no false ideas about my job. I’m somewhere between a showman and a court jester. […] I don’t know if I’ll ever change anyone’s mind. If [die Serie] that does, that would be fantastic. […] Through the metaphor of superheroes or space or whatever, you can say subversive things that you wouldn’t get away with in most cases in normal drama series. When and how will The Boys Season 4 continue?
The fourth season of The Boys is unlikely to get any less political, as after Homelander (Antony Starr) murders a protester, he uses the heated atmosphere and his followers to gain even more influence. At the same time, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and the Boys try to prevent the rise of the dangerous Vice President Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit).
It starts next Thursday, June 13, 2024 on Amazon Prime Video. Three episodes will be released online to start with, and the remaining five episodes will be released weekly on Thursdays.
