Amazon’s wacky superhero satire The Boys is currently in its fourth season on Prime Video and is already heading towards an epic finale that could pull out all the stops in season 5. Especially when we look at the comic book by Garth Ennis, which comes with some shocking twists.
However, the biggest twist in the comics, which completely turns the story of superhero Homelander (Antony Starr) on its head, will not find its way into the series adaptation. This is what The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has now revealed.
Warning, there are spoilers for The Boys comic:
The Boys ignores the comic twist about Homelander clone Black Noir and season 4 won’t change that
In the graphic novel The Boys, a huge twist is revealed shortly before the end of the story. Behind the mask of the silent ninja superhero Black Noir is actually a Homelander clone created by Vought to be able to destroy the Seven leader in an emergency. Over time, however, he became a psychopath and reveals himself as a supervillain in the finale.

Black Noir (1.0) in The Boys
The chances that the Amazon adaptation could surprise with this twist have been slim since the beginning of the series. At least attentive fans know that the character is played by the black actor Nathan Mitchell. The second season of The Boys finally confirmed that Black Noir is actually black and that there is no Homelander clone behind the mask. But now season 4 reshuffled the cards.
After the death of the original Black Noir, Season 4 introduces us to a new version of the character. The mute superhero has been replaced by an unexpectedly talkative Supe actor. He is also played by Nathan Mitchell, but we haven’t seen his face (yet).
So is there hope that we could see an implementation of the dramatic Homelander twist in The Boys Season 4? The final answer is: No. The Boys creator Eric Kripke has now finally put the clone issue to rest in an interview with Variety:
It’s a damn good twist. But it’s like, wait, the villain I’ve been following isn’t really the villain. I’m sure the fans are angry that I’m not going in that directionbut for me it wasn’t that satisfying. If I’m going to follow this villain, I want him to be the villain. So I was never really into the idea of clones.
Kripke also explains that in his opinion the revelation of a clone does not fit the down-to-earth tone of the series and would feel too “magical.” So fans don’t have to worry that Homelander will end up being just a misunderstood character whose worst deeds were committed by a clone. He can remain just as evil as we love him to be.
