No harder than Malenia – that’s what stuck in my mind when I fought the many bosses in the new Elden Ring DLC. My conclusion? Hidetaka Miyazaki has once again overdone it and thrown his Tainted into their merciless doom. I have to say, though, that I’ve never had so much fun losing.
The Elden Ring DLC ”Shadow of the Erdtree” starts in Germany on June 21st at midnight. All Souls fans are eagerly waiting to be destroyed again. While many are looking forward to the new area of the Shadowlands, the bosses are one of the most important things that will keep players busy for a long time.
I was able to put the DLC through its paces before the release and defeat every boss. I’ve played every Souls game from FromSoftware, from Demon Souls to Elden Ring, and I know many of the iconic bosses from each game – but what I saw in the Elden Ring DLC tops everything.
Who writes here? 10 years in the fascinating universes of Hidetaka Miyazaki and MeinMMO author Christos Tsogos still can’t get enough of the relentless worlds of the Souls games. From Demon Souls to Elden Ring, he has played everything and won platinum in every game. With a lot of experience with bosses and a good sense of direction, Christos maneuvered through the Souls content like nothing, but the DLC even slowed down our expert and showed him that experience alone is not enough.
Boss fights will leave you speechless
Word is already spreading in the Reddit communities that the boss of Elden Ring, Hidetaka Miyazaki, often promises much less, only to surprise his fans.
In many interviews regarding the new bosses, the boss talked about how their difficulty is based on the second half of the base game. Examples include Rykard, Maliketh, Radagon and the Elden Beast.
As for the optional bosses, they are supposed to be like Malenia, but not as difficult. The boss made it clear that there will not be another Malenia like this. When I finished the DLC, I have to say that was a blatant lie – but a lie that I enjoyed.
There are supposed to be 10 bosses in total, many of which are important for progressing to the end. Each of the bosses kept me busy for a long time. The easiest ones took 2-3 hours, while the hardest ones wore me down for days. What most of the bosses had in common, however, was the powerful impression they left on me.
If you think the bosses only offer one phase, you are mistaken. The mood often changed suddenly and in many moments I had the feeling that Armageddon was breaking out. I then stood there motionless for minutes, died and had to first realize what my eyes had just seen.
So if I had to use bosses from past Souls games as comparisons for their epic presentation, the fights against Slave Knight Gael, Black-Eat Midir, and the Nameless King would be apt candidates – provided you make them 10 times harder. I personally enjoyed losing, and I already know that you’ll definitely be stuck on two upcoming bosses the longest.
You will find out for yourself what they are on June 21st at midnight. Until then, what are you most looking forward to in the upcoming DLC?
