The Booster option of the Free Mobile package at 2 euros is changing. But not in a good way: you must now add 4.99 euros per month to take advantage of unlimited telephony and 1 GB of data in 4G. No interest !
But what has stung Free Mobile? The “rebellious” operator who brought down the prices of telephone plans in France when he arrived more than ten years ago, and who proudly announced that he would keep his prices constant for several years while the prices of competitors increase in 2023 ( see our article) has just made an offer which may not please its subscribers, by modifying the conditions and, above all, the price of its Booster option, intended to improve its “small” Free package at 2 euros.
For the record, and as promised the previous year, Free Mobile had finally upgraded its “small” package to 2 euros in the fall of 2022. More precisely, the operator offered its subscribers a paid option called Booster which enriched the famous economical formula. Billed at 2.99 euros per month, it allowed you to make unlimited phone calls – instead of the 2 hours included in the basic package – and to take advantage of 600 MB of mobile data – instead of the meager 50 MB included in the package. basic. A welcome enrichment, if not very generous in terms of data, insofar as several virtual operators – known as MVNOs – offer more for an equivalent price. What the rebel operator seems to have finally understood, by reviewing his copy. But not in a good way!
Booster option: unlimited calls and 1 GB of data for an additional 4.99 euros per month
In fact, the Booster option launched at the end of September 2022 has just evolved. Now, in addition to unlimited calls, it includes 1 GB of data, which is more comfortable, not always very comfortable. Especially since, beyond the included gigabyte, each additional megabyte is charged 5 cents… In the genre fair use, we have seen better – some operators are content to limit the bit rate in the event of the data envelope being exceeded. In addition, the activation of this option is charged 10 euros. Admittedly, this sum is to be paid only once, but there again, we know of more elegant commercial gestures….
The problem is that Free Mobile has seriously increased its prices: instead of 2.99 euros per month – in addition to the 2 euros for the “small” package – you now have to pay 4.99 euros each months to take advantage of it. Which brings it all to 6.99 euros per month! Admittedly, Freebox subscribers benefit from a special rate with a flat rate of 2 euros free per household – which makes a line with unlimited calls with 1 GB of data for 4.99 euros per month. But even under these conditions, the Booster formula is of little interest when compared to what the competition offers, and in particular the MVNOs! For example, the Sim+ operator still offers its SIM+ Evasion 4G plan with unlimited calls and 5 GB of data for only 5 euros per month – yes, a pretty all-round price too! Let’s be clear: Free Mobile’s Booster formula is too expensive. We can only advise you against it, recommending that you look elsewhere, even if you are loyal to Free! And hope that Xavier Niel’s teams will quickly find their reason unless you really want to look like Reef, its parody competitor virtual staged in its pubs…
It is therefore a safe bet that only a few Freebox subscribers will adopt this option to improve their daily lives. And again, those who are too lazy to change operator! Everyone else will find better elsewhere. Unfortunately, unlike what happened a year or two ago, you can no longer find super advantageous packages in these prices. Some probably remember the offers with unlimited calls at 5 euros per month with 20 GB of data at B&YOU or RED, or a package at 3 euros per month with 5 GB of data at Cdiscount Mobile, but that era seems to be over. Too bad, because these data volumes are more than enough for intermediate use – which is what most users ask for. To maintain their income and their margins, operators – both traditional and virtual – now seem to prefer to offer more expensive formulas, with more data, even if they are useless for many…
