Missing since January 7, Marie-Paule Albet, 77, was found dead in the Appoigny forest, where she used to walk and run.
At the end of three days of searching in the woods of Appoigny, the lifeless body of Marie-Paule Albet, who had not given any sign of life since Tuesday, was found this Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the stroke of 10 hours. A new search was organized to find her. Around a hundred volunteers were mobilized for the occasion. The day before, relay Republican Yonnethe 77-year-old jogger’s cell phone was found just before night fell, during a previous hunt.
The body of the septuagenarian was finally discovered “several tens of meters away”, revealed the public prosecutor of Auxerre, Hugues de Phily, specifying that “the body of this lady is really in an area which is lined with very dense brambles, in a difficult to access place. So what happened? At this stage, “no [hypothèses] is not excluded”, estimates the magistrate who has also opened an investigation into “research into the causes of death”, entrusted to the Auxerre research brigade.
The forensic doctor was able to quickly confirm on Thursday that the body was indeed that of Marie-Paule Albet. Furthermore, his “findings do not allow us to favor the criminal hypothesis”, noted the prosecutor, indicating that he had ordered an autopsy to determine precisely the causes of death. For the moment, “a natural death” seems favored. “She would have gotten lost in the woods and would have desperately searched for her way,” says the magistrate, whose Republican Yonne And France 3 echo. However, the prosecutor does not rule out the criminal aspect: “We can also consider, without this avenue being favored, something more serious with the malicious intervention of a third person. We are not ruling out anything.”
