The blue-yellow star and reigning champion already knocked out in the qualifiers

A whole bunch of Swedish cross-country ladies settle for the podium places in the winter’s first World Cup race, classic-style sprints in Finland’s Ruka.

But one disappeared immediately. Maja Dahlqvistlast season’s Sprint Cup winner, did not advance from qualifying.
– It was really bad, she says.
– It has felt bad since a week into October. I think it would be better after Gällivare, when I got a few races there, but it’s the same. It feels like it’s not me who goes.

Can you be more specific?
– Kind of like I ride with a taped nose, taped mouth and have to max out for three minutes. It is as if there is a lack of oxygen in the whole body. I can’t move in the end. It is strangled.

Jonna Sundling, Emma Ribom, Frida Karlsson, Johanna Häggström, Lynn Svahn and Moa Lundgren moved on.
