The makers of the successful sitcom The Big Bang Theory around Chuck Lorre made every effort to fulfill as many fan wishes as possible in the highly emotional 2019 series finale. For example, the permanently broken elevator was finally used.
The redemptive answer to a great mystery of the comedy hit that popular character Penny (Kaley Cuoco), those responsible remained obligated to their audience: The last name never revealed The likeable main character remains a mystery even after the last episode.
Müller, Meier, Schmidt? Theory about Penny’s last name in TBBT has a solution
It is one of the many running gags of The Big Bang Theory that over 12 seasons, Penny’s last name is not mentioned once or can be read anywhere. So are we dealing with a pseudonym like Madonna or Sting? Rather unlikely.
The fact that the TBBT authors never provided the missing information about Penny’s family name naturally always attracted fans who came around the corner with various theories about it. One of them suggests that her last name was revealed in the series, albeit in an indirect way. So her full name is very simple: Penny Wyatt.
But where does this theory come from? The origin of this theory lies in Episode 15 of Season 2 (The Petting Machine). In it, Penny meets Leonard’s mother Beverly (Christine Baranski) for the first time, with whom she speaks in a scene about her childhood and her parents. She also briefly mentions that Her father’s name: Bob.
This is unusual in that her father (Keith Carradine), who first appears in season 4 answers to the name Wyatt. Some fans therefore suspect that Penny’s dad’s first name is actually Bob (short for Robert) and simply prefers to be addressed by his last name – certainly not an entirely unusual practice. So that would mean that Penny also has the last name Wyatt.
Of course, it is also just as likely that those who made TBBT in season 2 did not yet think of a future storyline with Penny’s father and simply gave him some name for the scene in question, which they later forgot about in season 4.
For romantic-minded fans of The Big Bang Theory, all of this speculation is irrelevant anyway. Finally, in season 9, Penny married her true love Leonard (Johnny Galecki). took his last name Hofstadter.
