The big threat to Frida Karlsson and Linn Svahn – who can destroy the entire Tour de Ski: “Keep your eyes on them”

Several Swedish women are well placed in the Tour de Ski.
But several also risk severe punishment in the event of a slip-up.
– It is important to be smart, says Linn Svahn to SVT.

Tour de Ski rolls on. During the days, all skaters, coaches and riding teams moved from Toblach, Italy to Davos in Switzerland. There, a sprint and chase start await, before they move on to the finish in Val di Fiemme.

The big threat

Unfortunately have Ebba Andersson forced to break the tour since she felt the covid disease she suffered around Christmas in her body. But that hasn’t stopped Sweden from having several riders at the top of the total. On the men’s side lies William Poromaa shared third, just over a minute behind the leading Norwegian Harald Östberg Amundsen.

And on the women’s side parts Lynn Svahn and Jonna Sundling in third place, 48 seconds behind the leader Jessie Diggins. Also found Frida Karlsson and Emma Ribom in eighth and ninth place overall. But Svahn, Karlsson and Ribom all risk having their tour completely ruined.

Ribom’s concern

All three of them have a yellow card. If the riders get one more, a full three minutes will be added to their total time.
– Before championships, they are reset. But you have those (yellow cards) in a Tour de Ski, and it will be a very severe penalty if you get another one, then the tour is over. I think maybe we should discuss it this spring. But now the situation is as it is, and then we just have to be extra careful, especially Linn Svahn who got one the other day. She has her eyes on her, says the national team manager Anders Byström to SVT.

Emma Ribom received her warning after being a little too fast at a start.
– I’m still a little nervous about having that card with me. Every sprint start this season I’ve thought “okay Emma, wait an extra millisecond before you set off” because there are small margins in between. I am colored because I stand with a yellow card, but I think somewhere that it can disappear after a number of competitions, says Ribom.

Svahn is calm

Linn Svahn is a little calmer about her warning.
– If you start thinking too much, I think it causes more problems than it does any good. You just have to be smart, she tells SVT.

The sprint prologue in Davos starts at 14.30 on Wednesday.
