The big star in the Swedish women’s national team – the 17-year-old super talent has been given a place in the blue-yellow EC qualifying squad

Elin Rubensson is back in the national football team for the fateful matches against France and England when the European Championship qualifiers end.
Confederation captain Peter Gerhardsson has selected a larger squad than usual, including Häcken’s 17-year-old talent Felicia Schröder.

Due to players threatened with warning and the fact that football seasons in the world are in different phases, the confederation captain chose Peter Gerhardsson to field 27 players instead of 23 in the squad for the European Championship qualifiers against France and England in July.

Scream in the squad

Elin Rubenssonwho left Häcken for play in Houston in the American league NWSL last spring, is back in the team after missing the last gathering.

Häcken’s 17-year-old offensive talent Felicia Schroeder and 22-year-olds Evelyn IjehMilan, are two future names in the squad that also contains four goalkeepers.
– At some point we will announce that a goalkeeper will not be going with us (to France), says Peter Gerhardsson at a press conference.

Stina Blackstenius is still missing from the squad due to injury, just like at the last European Championship qualifying round at the turn of May-June. Gerhardsson refers questions about the 28-year-old striker’s status to her club Arsenal.
– Stina is not eligible for selection, otherwise she would have been there, says the union captain.

The match of destiny

After four out of six matches in the European Championship qualifiers, Sweden stands on seven points, just like reigning European champions England. France tops the qualifying group on nine points.

The two best teams are directly qualified for the championship in Switzerland next summer. The third and fourth get to play in the playoffs.

Sweden meets France in Dijon on July 12 and England in Gothenburg four days later. Since head-to-head meetings are superior on goal difference and Sweden’s away meeting with England at the beginning of the qualifier ended 1-1, the match at Gamla Ullevi is decisive.
– Win at Gamla Ullevi and we’ll go on to the EC, says Peter Gerhardsson.
