The big shock in the skiing world – Sweden threatens to leave the World Cup after huge conflict: “The ambition is to…”

A huge conflict has broken out in the skiing world.
When Sweden threatens to leave the World Cup.
– We must reach an agreement, that is what we are working towards, says Swedish Skiing Association chairman Pernilla Bonde to SVT.

The whole of cross-country skiing could be changed forever, because of a giant conflict. The issue is about who is responsible for selling the TV rights to the World Cup.

Fi’s action

In the past, the organizers of each World Cup competition have been able to sell the television rights on their own. But that is what the International Ski Federation, Fis, wants, with the Swedish chairman Johan Eliasch in the driver’s seat change on.

From 2026, the television rights will be sold by Fis and not the national confederations. It has caused eight of the very largest skiing nations to react strongly and are now considering breaking away from the World Cup, reports SVT.

Sweden threatens

It is about Sweden, Norway, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Slovenia who are dissatisfied with Fi’s new plan for the television rights. National confederations feel that they have not been sufficiently involved in the negotiations and may now be forced to act.

If an agreement is not reached with Fis, the eight nations can break away and start their own league, instead of the World Cup. Recently, a meeting took place where Fis extended a hand to the countries to try to find a solution.
– It was a constructive meeting, and we will meet again in a few weeks, says the chairman of the Swedish Ski Association Pernilla Farmer to SVT.
