The big recognition of the successful coach Johannes Lukas that shows why Swedes love him: “It gets very emotional”

He is the success coach that everyone loves.
Johannes Lukas has taken Swedish biathlon to the top of the world and is praised by everyone.
Now the 30-year-old admits how much the sport means to him.

The new biathlon season is underway again after a long pre-season. Another year with the national team captain John Luke and a national team full of world-class skaters.

Great success in the WC

Last season, the successful coach from Germany led the blue-yellow national biathlon team to the most successful championship ever in the World Cup, with a total of eleven medals. Now he is looking forward to another successful season on the tracks and on the shooting range.
– The pre-season has generally been good, then there have been quite a few minor injuries recently, but we have resolved what has arisen in a good way. We have found alternative training solutions, and now those who had problems are on their way back. In addition, it is more gentle on snow, Lukas said at a press conference before the season.

A big change in the pre-season has been more focus on high altitude, to prepare for the upcoming WC 2025 in Lenzerheide and the Olympics 2026 in Antholz.
– It is too early to evaluate the outcome of this so far. The altitude means, naturally, that there will be a little less high-intensity training. So I think we will be able to evaluate more by Christmas. But we’ve had very good camps where we’ve gained a lot of altitude, says the 30-year-old to länðig.com.

Lukas is celebrated

Recently, the Swedish people have been able to follow the national biathlon team from the inside and up close through the SVT documentary “Bäst när det gäller”. There, Johannes Lukas’ passion for the sport and his incredible commitment have become a big talking point, and the way he is moved to tears when his skaters succeed has made him extremely popular with the Swedish people.
– It is clear that these are intense competition days. If there are two individual races, we can have twelve actives out on the track, and then I have a competition strategy for each active in my head, also all the times in my “toad” (iPad) plus someone yelling times in my ear. That means you have to be very focused. We work hard and closely together throughout the year; it’s clear that I’m hugely passionate about this. And then it’s clear that when you let go – that you understand that it will be a medal – then this becomes a very emotional moment, says the national team coach to the ski site.

The Swedish biathletes are already starting the World Cup season and have had to sharpen their form. But the big question is what is Johannes Lukas’ form really like?
– The form is okay, it has been better. But I’m fighting, says Lukas with a smile.
