The big change that will soon disrupt TV evenings

Zapping on television will become more complicated in the coming months.

After a long day at work, in the evening or during a rainy weekend with the children, many people like to sit on their sofa in front of their television. This time is generally synonymous with relaxation, entertainment and escape, whether to follow series, films, shows, or even sporting events, alone or with family. And very often, viewers have their own little habits or at least their favorite television channels that they skip almost instinctively on their remote control. But know that a big change is coming in 2025.

This concerns TNT channels, those which are broadcast digitally and accessible free of charge. In France, TNT offers 30 free national channels, including general channels such as TF1, France 2, M6, and specialized channels such as Arte or Gulli. All have a number assigned to them for several years. Viewers know them by heart, and yet, from March 2025, some of them will disappear from TNT to make way for new programs.

This is the case of C8, and NRJ12. The Regulatory Authority for Audiovisual and Digital Communication (Arcom) took this decision last July after having “conducted, in 2023, a public consultation and a preliminary impact study” as part of the procedure for allocating the 15 DTT frequencies, can we read in their press release. The two channels on channels 8 and 12 should in the future be occupied by Réels TV, the channel of Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky, and Ouest-France TV. It remains to be seen who will take which number.

Furthermore, the fate of channel 19 also remains to be determined since the end of France Ô programs in August 2020. Negotiations are currently still underway. Arcom should provide answers regarding the numbering of channels by the end of the year. In any case, these future changes will indeed shake up the habits of the French as well as the audiovisual landscape!
