Historical change in Melodifestivalen 2025
On Saturday, the first competition in the Melodifestivalen 2025 takes place. But already on Friday, curious music listeners will be able to hear the songs. They are posted on SVT Play and also by the respective record companies at the streaming services.
The reason for the change is that you want to keep up with a modern media landscape, according to Wistbacka.
– There is nothing urgent that has happened, we felt more that now it is time for people to listen to their favorites when they want to. So the songs are released on Friday and then the music is completely free to be played on radio and television, but not in commercials. There we still have restrictions.
SVT, of course, also hopes to increase interest in the program. Now it remains to be seen if you will succeed.
– We’ll see how big it gets. It is a small part of creating more commitment before the competition itself. For us in our little bubble it is a huge change, but we will analyze it afterwards and do an evaluation.

– I think so, but you should never say never. It still must not be released before midnight the night until Friday, it is important. But it also applies to all other ordinary music, that you do not want to release it before the release date, but then for commercial reasons.
