With a Moviepilot rating of 7.4, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is not only the best-rated Star Trek series in a long time. We recently ranked the space adventures of Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and his Enterprise crew as the 15th best sci-fi series of the new millennium.
But there is bad news for Trekkies: Anyone who was looking forward to finally being able to see the third season of Strange New Worlds this year will be bitterly disappointed. The wait for the new episodes will be even longer.
Star Trek replenishment is a long time coming: Strange New World is no longer starting this year
Actually, the next season should have been filmed long ago. But like so many film and series productions, Strange New Worlds was also affected by the Hollywood strikes by the screenwriting and acting unions last year. Therefore, filming for season 3 could not begin as planned in May, but only in December 2023, as reported by Screenrant, among others.
Production is expected to last until June 2024. For Star Trek fans this means: There will be no new episodes of Strange New World this year. Season 3 will be at Paramount+ in 2025 at the earliest can get started.

For comparison: Filming for season 2 ended in July 2022 and did not start until the following June. The reason for the time-consuming post-production is the many visual effects used to bring the sci-fi world of Strange New Worlds to life.
The double strike has thrown the plans for the Star Trek universe into disarray. But fans don’t have to do without sci-fi supplies completely. The 5th and final season of Star Trek: Discovery starts on Paramount+ on April 4, 2024. New episodes of the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Prodigy are also scheduled to appear later this year.
What’s next in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3?
For fans of the Enterprise crew, the wait is particularly annoying. Because although the series actually consists of individual episodes that stand alone, Season 2 ended on a dramatic cliffhanger.
Captain Pike is faced with an impossible decision. Parts of his crew were kidnapped by the evil Gorn species. Should he save her or follow the order to retreat? In addition, the fate of his girlfriend, Captain Batel (Melanie Scrofano), hangs in the balance after he was implanted with Gorn eggs.
What exactly awaits us in season 3 is not yet known. But we can assume that the cliffhanger will be resolved in the start of the new season and the rest will be over again different episodic adventures and genre experiments consists. And the biggest question: How can a Star Trek musical episode be topped?
