With 11 nominations, Everything Everywhere All At Once was the favorite in the Oscar race, but that was a surprise in itself because the film, with its low budget of 14-25 million US dollars, is more of an indie film. In the end there were 7 golden trophies for the wild mix of genreswhich mixes sci-fi, fantasy, martial arts action and comedy with the story of an immigrant family with thieving joy and stirs seven times counterclockwise.
It all starts when Chinese immigrant Evelyn (Michelle Yeoh), who runs a laundromat in the USA, not only has to make a last-minute appeal to the IRS and save her business, but at the same time has to prepare a celebration and save her marriage. And that’s just the start of an insane journey, because what starts out as an immigrant story with a lot of heart suddenly becomes one Martial arts multiverse action and according to our colleagues from film releases to “(…) probably the best[n] Multiverse movie imaginable!”.
Running between the absurd humor and the over-the-top action great cast all the threads together. Michelle Yeoh delivers a top performance and stumbles multilingually through the multiverse like no other. But the supporting cast also shows incredible enthusiasm, including Ke Huy Quan, who was rediscovered after a long absence from acting. Some of you probably remember him as Short Round from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
