The best police comedy of recent years can be caught

This police comedy released five years ago is a real treat. If you haven’t seen it in theaters or streaming, it’s time to catch up urgently on television.

Want a detective film? It is possible to (re)see this week one of the best police comedies of recent years. This life-size Cluedo, which leans towards social satire, is both intriguing, full of twists and turns and suspense, but also funny and punctuated by colorful characters. Fans of the genre will be served!

Directed by Rian Johnson (Star Wars 8, Poker Face, Looper…), HAS knives drawn follows the investigation of detective Benoît Blanc. Hired by an anonymous sponsor, the latter is responsible for solving the murder of Harlan Thrombey, an eminent author of successful thrillers. The latter was in fact found dead on the evening of his 85th birthday in his home. However, each member of his family hides a secret, and they in turn become suspects in the affair.

To give substance to the different characters in this investigation, Rian Johnson surrounded himself with a five-star cast: Daniel Craig swaps the costume of James Bond for that of the detective, facing Ana de Armas, Christopher Plummer, Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Toni Collette, Lakeith Stanfield, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon and Riki Lindhome, Jaeden Martell and Katherine Langford.

When it was released in 2019, At loggerheads had a success as unexpected as it was deserved. Benoît Blanc’s investigation garnered 1.1 million admissions in France, and $158 million at the American box office. Critics, press and spectators were won over. On Allociné, the detective film received a rating of 3.8/5 from the press, and 4.1/5 from spectators.

Unsurprisingly, such success guaranteed Benoît Blanc to return for new adventures. It was Netflix that ordered two additional films from Rian Johnson. The second part, Glass Onions, was released in December 2022 on the streaming platform. With this sequel, subscribers to the streaming platform were able to discover a new, more incredible investigation and a new cast of stars who have fun playing detestable or ridiculous characters. It is not yet known when the third episode will be released.

At loggerheads is airing on television this week. It is France 2 which is responsible for offering it to viewers this Sunday, May 12, from 9:10 p.m. If you don’t have a small screen, don’t panic, the film can also be seen in streaming and live on the france.tv site.
