Amazon Prime Video has been struggling with German series so far, but one has already made it to four seasons: LOL: Last One Laughing with Michael “Bully” Herbig. In the comedy show, ten stars are locked up for six hours and only those who don’t laugh during this time win. With delicious results, as I discuss with my colleague Patrick Reinbott in the new episode of Streamgetüre.

LOL: Last One Laughing is like a mixture of Schillerstrasse and the jungle camp
LOL: Last One Laughing is based on the Japanese show Documental by comedian Hitoshi Matsumoto (Big Man Japan) and has simple ingredients: a closed studio room, ten stars mainly active in comedy, a game master (Bully) and a framework of six hours. During this time, the LOL participants have to make themselves laugh.
They do this with spontaneous jokes, a rehearsed program or other ideas. If things go too slowly, Bully intervenes, for example with funny vegetables in the studio refrigerator or guest stars like Heino and Police Academy noise magician Michael Winslow. Anyone who laughs, giggles or smiles twice is kicked out. In the end, one star is left and gets 50,000 euros, which are donated to a good cause.

The result is a mixture of improvised comedy à la Schillerstraße and exciting social dynamics like in I’m a star – get me out of here!. Anyone who is recognized by the others as a victim who can easily be made to laugh will suspect something bad or funny.
The 4th season of LOL is currently running on Amazon, in which stars such as Cordula Stratmann, Hazel Brugger Moritz Bleibtreu, Kurt Krömer and Joko Winterscheidt take part. With Max Giermann, there is even a winner from a previous LOL season.
