The best game mode in Overwatch 2 is back, removing the most annoying element

In Overwatch 2 there is probably the best game mode again – but only for a short time. It’s worth it, even if you don’t like playing shooters.

Hand on heart: Overwatch 2’s special event game modes are always a surprise. Some are really good, others are a bit of a mistake and become tiring or boring after a while. But Mischief & Mayhem mode is pretty fun – and now available again.

Even if you don’t play much Overwatch 2 at the moment, you should give Blizzard’s shooter a while to play this mode.

What kind of mode is this? The “Mischief & Magic” mode, which is also often called “Prop Hunt”, has little to do with traditional Overwatch. Because there are neither conventional goals nor do the characters have their usual abilities.

A team takes on the role of Kiriko. The team has a few seconds lead and has to hide on the map. Using an ability you can transform into different objects. These can be trees, chairs or even vases – each time you activate the ability you transform into a different, random object. Now you have to hide on the map and remain undetected for as long as possible.

The other team consists only of Genjis and is tasked with finding all enemy players within the time limit and hitting them at least once to eliminate them immediately. You have to pay attention to little things like noises or inappropriate objects.

The game is played with alternating roles – the first team to win three rounds wins the match.

You can see the absurd situations that arise, such as two Kiriko players masquerading as an attraction’s car, in this clip:

What has changed? Even though the Mischief & Magic mode isn’t completely new, Blizzard has made a few changes to make the mode even more interesting than last year. The three most important innovations are:

  • There is a new map. In addition to the Blizzard World map, you can now also hide in an Asian night market and try to avoid the Genjis or find the disguised Kirikos.
  • Genji loses 25 health with each melee attack and only regenerates life when he hits a Kiriko.
  • To compensate for this, Genji players have a little more time to search.
  • Above all, the change to Genji’s life points makes the mode much more tactical and interesting. It is no longer possible to simply spam “Attack” all the time and land numerous lucky hits. Instead, you have to look closely at the surroundings and identify faulty objects. If you use the melee attack too often, you will die after just a few seconds, essentially condemning your team to defeat.

However, you can still use Genji’s “Dash” without penalty – but it has a cooldown. However, it is ideal for covering a large area directly or for reaching higher places.

Until when can you play this? The mode is part of the Chinese New Year celebrations and is available until February 20th, before the event and thus the game mode disappears again for the time being.

If you don’t like the normal Overwatch 2 or just want a little change, you should take a look at the mode – it’s worth it.

How do you like the event in Overwatch?

The developers recently had to change Reaper because he could say really nasty things.
