Elden Ring offers you 10 classes to choose from at the beginning of the game. Although this is not particularly important in the long term, it can have a significant impact on the gaming experience, especially at the beginning. MeinMMO therefore tells you which type of player should choose which class.
Choosing a class in Elden Ring works a little differently than in other RPGs. Since you can level up an infinite number of times and assign new skills freely, there are basically no limits to what you can do with your builds in the long term. You can also reset the attributes if necessary.
That’s why classes in Elden Ring mainly play a role in the first few hours of the game. But especially if you’re a beginner, these first few hours can be crucial.
The weapons you start with have the greatest influence on your success in the game, both in the short and long term. In our tier list you can see how good each weapon is.
That’s why we recommend the 10 classes here depending on your level of experience, so that you can make exactly the right choice for you.
Elden Ring: All our guides, beginner tips and builds at a glance
This is how the attributes work in Elden Ring:
Vigor: Vitality affects your health and impacts fire resistance and poison immunity.
Mind: The mind affects the FP (mana) and focus-related resistance. Important for magic and sorcery builds.
Endurance (condition): Increases your character’s stamina and also increases physical defense. Particularly important for melee fighters, as stamina enables dodging and blocking.
Strength: Required to wield heavy weapons. It also increases the attack power of weapons with strength scaling.
Dexterity: Required to wield advanced weapons. It also increases the attack power of weapons that scale with agility. Reduces the casting time of spells, mitigates fall damage, and makes it harder to fall from a horse.
Intelligence (Wisdom): Increases the spell power of Intelligence-scaling spells and improves magic resistance. Also increases how often you can use spells.
Faith: Required to perform summons. It also empowers summons that scale with faith.
Arcane (Arcane Energy): Affects death resistance and certain spells and summons.
Elden Ring – The best classes for beginners
By beginners we mean players who are perhaps trying a FromSoftware game for the first time with Elden Ring. This also includes players who want to get started as easily as possible. For the beginner classes, we therefore placed a lot of emphasis on flexibility and long-term usefulness of the starting equipment.
Tips for these classes: You can’t go wrong with the classes for beginners. The standard equipment of these classes traditionally includes some of the strongest weapons and spells, even in the endgame. In addition, the classes here have such balanced stats that you can easily try out several builds.
We recommend the following classes for Soulsborne beginners:
Samurai – Balanced stats, fantastic starter weapon
Main attributes:
What do you have to consider in this class? The Samurai is an excellent choice for almost every player in Elden Ring. This class starts with an Uchigatana, which is traditionally one of the strongest and most versatile weapons in any Soulsborne. The weapon is very powerful, especially at the start.
A samurai starts with a bow and classic samurai armor. This makes the class a top all-rounder that relies primarily on physical attacks.
Prophet – Good offensively and defensively thanks to fire spells and healing magic
Main attributes:
What do you have to consider in this class? Anyone who has played Dark Souls will be familiar with the miracle and pyromancy spells. In Elden Ring, these spells are called “invocations.”
The prophet starts with a spear and relies on these invocations. In addition to powerful fire spells, invocations also include supporting healing invocations, but also powerful dragon invocations.
This makes the class very flexible despite lower vitality, and therefore a good choice for newbies.
Confessor – Very versatile starting equipment
Main attributes:
What do you have to consider in this class? Similar to the Prophet, the Confessor offers instant access to invocations, but with his sword and shield, he is better suited to new players who want to place a lot of emphasis on close combat. These attributes also offer very balanced values, making them good in many situations.
To this end, Confessors start with a spell that dampens footstep noises and reduces fall damage. This should make moving through dangerous areas much easier if you can sneak silently.
Vagabund – Long-term versatile
Main attributes:
What do you have to consider in this class? The Drifter is primarily a melee fighter. With his longsword, halberd and shield, this class starts with a variety of long-term useful equipment.
This is a kind of all-round class with medium-heavy armor. Thanks to its attributes, you can easily use the Drifter in almost any build.
