Online services for Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, and Battlefield: Hardline are ending on November 7. You can still play on PC, but that’s also temporary.
Electronic Arts recently confirmed that a handful of older Battlefield games will be removed from digital storefronts. Starting July 31, Battlefield 3 (considered by many to be the best Battlefield game ever), Battlefield 4, and Battlefield: Hardline will no longer be available for purchase on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Then, on November 7, those games’ online services will be shut down for good.
Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 and Hardline Go Offline
While Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 remain playable only on PC, Hardline will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC – but not for long. Single-player content is unaffected by this move. Battlefield 3 launched in 2011 to a hugely positive reception, competing effortlessly against Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and becoming what many have called “the pinnacle of Battlefield.”
But all of these games are coming to an end online. On November 7th, the online servers for Battlefield 3 (along with 4 and Hardline) will be shutting down on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This means that Battlefield 3 will remain playable – for now – only on PC. However, given the inevitable and continuing decline in players booting up the 13-year-old shooter on PC, it’s only a matter of time before Electronic Arts shuts down that service as well. This is also expected to affect backwards compatibility – meaning you won’t be able to play Battlefield 3 on Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One.
