According to researcher Charlotta Hedberg, a recurring problem is that migrant workers who come every year encounter problems connected to the berry picking industry. But also that the industry is not sufficiently well developed and would need to review its routines.
– Many of the berries are exported to other parts of the world for processing. There, a greater value from the berries could remain in the region, says Charlotta Hedberg who is professor of cultural geography at Umeå University
This is the first time a Nordic berry conference has been organized and the goal is for it to become a recurring event.
