Fantasy milestone on TV today: The first Harry Potter film lays the foundation of the Wizarding World
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the series prelude, was directed by Chris Columbus, who previously made a name for himself with family films such as Home Alone and Mrs. Doubtfire’s Spiky Nanny. In the first Potter adventure, he lays the foundation for the Wizarding World.
Here we meet Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint), who are starting their first year at the Magic School Hogwarts experience. There they not only get to deal with a troll and a three-headed dog. The evil Lord Voldemort, who killed Harry’s parents, is also back.

The Harry Potter story has now become an entire franchise that includes eleven movies and worldwide nearly $10 billion washed up in the box office. This puts the Wizarding World in third place in the ranking of the most successful franchises behind the giants Marvel and Star Wars.

How the Wizarding World will continue is uncertain. actually were five beasts movies planned. Since the spin-offs have played less from part to part, it is questionable whether Warner Bros.’s original plan will actually be implemented. Last but not least, a completely different announcement recently caused a stir: Harry Potter was completely re-filmed as a series for the streaming service Max (formerly HBO Max).

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone airs tonight, September 2, 2023 at 8:15 p.m. on Sat.1. With commercial breaks, the film is 185 minutes long. The repeat will follow on Sunday at 2:10 p.m. on the same channel.
