A 4-year-old girl living in China suffered from severe abdominal pain for a long time. Her family took their daughter to the hospital because of these complaints. After tests at the hospital, it was learned that the girl swallowed a large number of magnetic beads. The little girl underwent surgery to remove the soybean-sized beads from her belly.
THE SURGERY LASTED 3 HOURS
It took three hours for the doctors to remove the beads and stitch up the gut torn from them. Doctors stated that because the beads are magnetic, they stick together in places. Doctors also reportedly patched more than 14 holes caused by beads that lead to gastrointestinal perforation. Although the girl is currently recovering, she may face a higher risk of intestinal adhesions and obstructions in the future due to her distress.
