The Batman review

The Batman review

This time, The Batman, which brings the character’s early years and detective story to us, manages to be the Dark Knight movie we’ve been waiting for.

The moment we’ve been waiting for has arrived, and years later, a new solo Batman movie has been released. Frankly, I am among the audience that has been waiting with great excitement since the movie was announced. The reason for this is not Robert Pattinson, who is one of my favorite actors, although he is criticized by many. It’s also an effect, of course, but I am someone who loves Matt Reeves even though he has directed few films and watches his films with great pleasure. Moreover involvement of Greig Fraser in the project It also gave me hope. With the touches of Fraser and Matt Reeves, who took part in productions such as 8, Mandalorian and finally Dune, I have to say from the beginning that you want to breathe in all the atmosphere you expect from The Batman movie.

The Batman: The movie we’ve been waiting for

Telling a Batman story is a risk in itself, of course. If we leave the old films aside, the fact that a successful series such as the Nolan Trilogy took place in a period that we can say close has made the job of this film much more difficult in my opinion. But Matt Revees and his team have more than managed to overcome this. With different points of focus, they presented both a Batman story that we have not seen before and the world of the character with a successful narration. In other words, even someone who does not know what Batman is and what it is can get a lot of pleasure from this movie. We have a movie that is connected to its story in terms of narration, but also contains its own flavors.

As you know, the story of Batman Year Two is told within its own script. The director has already underlined this from the very first minute. We go back to the early years of Batman as a vigilante prowling Gotham. Although the character’s stern stance as a hero is depicted, we feel at every moment of the movie that he is actually a novice.

The Batman review

In terms of story and narration, I have to say that I found more than I expected in the movie. Gotham’s dark, rotten atmosphere is beautifully portrayed. I can say that there were scenes where I was very nervous and excited, especially in the first half of the movie. This includes the scene where Batman first appears. The music, narrative style and images used drag you into this tension. I can say that our hero, who strikes fear into the hearts of his enemies, manages to strike fear into the audience with this successful intonation.

Although Robert Pattinson still can’t get rid of his Twilight image, he is an actor that I love and respect. The actor, who generally stays away from popular productions and appears in very good movies, managed to shoulder the burden of the job while portraying Batman, perhaps one of the most popular heroes. Although we can’t see much, Bruce Wayne manages to get through this with his stance and facial expressions when he’s wearing his mask, as well as his identity. On the acting side, the other characters also lightened the burden on him.

The biggest surprise of the movie: Penguin

The Batman review

Some of Paul Dano’s scenes really give you goosebumps. You can fully feel the intelligence under the emphatic expression of the character and his rebellious demeanor. Still, the biggest surprise of the movie for me was definitely Colin Farrell. The actor, whom we could not recognize when we first saw him, is making friends with the character of Penguin. His facial expression, his speech, and it’s almost like he says I’m here. While winking at the sequels, he managed to draw a character portrait that I can’t wait to see on the screen.

The whole movie is like a comic book and progresses in a way that we identify with the character. While watching the movie, you realize how right it is to focus on the detective story and the way our hero finds himself. Even though the plot is interrupted at some moments and it is very simple, it does not bore the audience. You are waiting for the solution to be reached and you feel the tension of the next puzzle. At this point, I think the team missed a great opportunity. While watching the movie, I wished we had never known the villain. Both learning while watching Riddler and wondering who is under the mask could make that tense atmosphere much more effective. Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely not complaining about this narrative, but if we could accompany Batman’s detective story in this way, we could have left the hall with a much more effective impression.

The Batman review

In conclusion, I don’t want to talk more about The Batman and actually raise the surprises and expectations even more. In my opinion, I can say that The Batman is a movie that will suit Nolan’s Batman movies with its different narrative, successful story and tone. The story of finding the purpose of the character has caught a good rhythm with the detective theme. You don’t need to like comic book movies, even if you don’t know the character at all, a visual story is waiting for you to leave the theater with pleasure.
