The physiotherapist of the Dominican Republic’s World Cup basketball team died of a heart attack on the team’s return trip.
The Dominican Republic’s journey to the basketball World Cup ended in a tragic way. Team physiotherapist Vladimir Regalado died on the way back from the games. The basketball association of the Dominican Republic reported the sad news in social media.
According to the release, Regalado died of a heart attack while the team was on a return flight from the Philippines.
– We announce with deep sadness that our team’s physiotherapist Bladimir Regalado has died on the way back from the World Championships. Our deepest condolences to his family. Rest in peace, Bladimir, the association wrote in a statement.
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) honored Regalado’s memory in its update of the message service X. Regalado was a well-liked figure on the Dominican Republic basketball team.

The Dominican Republic made it to the upper playoffs of the World Cup, but the team missed out on the playoffs. The team was 14th in the World Championships and secured its place in the Olympic qualifiers.
