The Bar Association wants to raise the penalty fee significantly

A sharp increase in penalties for lawyers who seriously violate good legal practice is something that the Swedish Bar Association wants to see.

Today’s penalty fee is SEK 1,000–50,000 and is regulated by law. The maximum amount has not changed since 1997.

In a petition to the Ministry of Justice for an amendment to the Code of Judicial Procedure, the Bar Association instead proposes the interval SEK 10,000–250,000 in penalties.

“It is important that the disciplinary committee has access to effective sanctions that are well-balanced in relation to the seriousness of the violations. Since the maximum amount of the penalty has been unchanged for so many years, we thought it was necessary to review whether there were reasons to increase it “, says Secretary General Mia Edwall Insulander in a statement on the community’s website.
