The 360 attacks that started on September 13 were overload attacks, something that, among other things, the Integrity Protection Authority, Sweden’s courts and the Election Authority’s website val.se were previously exposed to.

Nordea’s head of private customers, Sara Mellahas said in an interview with the Finnish newspaper Kauppalehti that the attacks were particularly aimed at Sweden. She believes that the scale and force of the attacks were unprecedented.

– The attacks that started on September 13 continue. The last month has really been exceptional, because we have been hit by overload attacks every day, Mella told the newspaper.

Mella emphasizes, however, that Nordea has managed to fend off quite a few attacks.

– It is also worth noting that we have managed to repel around 90 percent of the attacks. The attackers have not broken into the bank’s systems, so the customers’ money and information have been safe at all times.

But the overload attacks have nevertheless hit the bank hard. According to Mella, the overload attacks have cost Nordea around tens of millions of euros.

– It seems to us that ultimately it is about destabilizing social peace and undermining trust. Here, critical infrastructure is attacked and banks are used as a tool to destabilize the entire society, says Mella Kauppalehti.

Whether the attacks continue remains to be seen.
