In the 6th season of The Rookie, the LAPD around Nathan Fillion’s John Nolan will again have to deal with a lot of criminals. Among them is a serial killer who is up to mischief as the so-called Pentagram Killer and always his victims with such a pentagram provides.
For the gripping criminal case that unfolds, among other things, in episode 4 entitled Training Day, the series may have relied on one real serial killer inspire who plagued the US West Coast with horrific murders in the 1980s.
Serial killers of the 1980s were modeled on Pentagram Killer from The Rookie
In the episode Training Day, Detective Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox) finds the Pentagram Killer’s unique signature on a corpse and establishes the connection to several murder cases that occurred years ago in Los Angeles under similar circumstances and were never fully solved. As Soaps reports, there are connections to the real serial killer and sex offender Richard Ramirez who was active between 1984 and 1985 in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Ramirez was under the name “The Night Stalker” and was sentenced to death in 1989 for 43 crimes, including at least 13 murders. The man, like the Pentagram Killer in The Rookie, often left the pentagram symbol on his victims and at crime scenes. Ramirez is said to have been interested in Satanism and the occult at the age of 14. He also appeared at his trial with a recorded pentagram on his hand.
ABC
The Rookie
It is not surprising that The Rookie is repeatedly inspired by true crime cases, as the basic story of the series also has true backgrounds. LAPD police officer William “Bill” Norcross served as a role model for main character John Nolan. Norcross left his family business in 2015 at age 44 to join the LAPD with no prior experience.
