The Azawad Liberation Front specifies the conditions for the release

The Spanish citizen kidnapped last week in southern Algeria was released by rebels from the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) and handed over to Algerian authorities on Tuesday January 21. The FLA, active in northern Mali, recovered this Spanish citizen in the Ménaka region, in northern Mali, where his captors had gone before handing the hostage over to the Islamic State group in the Sahel. The Spanish authorities confirmed the release on Wednesday January 22. The man was handed over to the Spanish ambassador in Algiers, Fernando Moran Calvo-Sotelo, under the supervision of the secretary general of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The FLA explains having been in contact with the Spanish authorities throughout the duration of the operation. Mohamed el Maouloud Ramadane, spokesperson for the FLA, explains how this release took place.
