The owner of a theme park is responsible for safety and there are accredited companies that regularly check the rides. Swedac is a government authority that tests the competence of those who inspect fairground facilities, according to police regulations.
Unusual with accidents
After Sunday’s accident at Gröna Lund in Stockholm, the companies that carry out inspections of the amusement parks will be contacted.
– Events like this always start a chain of investigations, says Peter Ågren, assessment leader Swedac.
Incidents such as a roller coaster stopping during a ride do occasionally happen, but major serious accidents are relatively rare.
Should one be concerned about going to amusement parks?
– Basically no, says Peter Ågren.
