The authorities are about to arrest the president of South

President Yoon Suk-yeol tried to declare a state of emergency in South Korea about a month ago. The country’s opposition says it was an attempted coup.

In South Korea, the authorities are arresting the country’s impeached president Yoon Suk-yeol at his official residence, reports the South Korean news agency Yonhap.

The convoy of investigative authorities trying to make an arrest arrived at the official residence early Friday morning local time.

In front of the apartment in the center of Seoul, the capital, there are dozens of police buses and hundreds of police officers in uniform, reports news agency AFP.

Demonstrators supporting Yoon reportedly clashed with police in front of Yoon’s official residence in the capital, Seoul. The goal of the protesters is to prevent the arrest of the president.

Yoon is set to become the first sitting South Korean president to be arrested.

The authority responsible for the preliminary investigation of official charges said on Wednesday that the arrest was to be made by next Monday.

A South Korean court issued an arrest warrant for the president on Tuesday, and it is valid until next Monday.

Yoon, who was impeached in mid-December, tried to declare a state of emergency in the country on December 3. According to the opposition, it was an attempted coup.
