The assassination of Floribert Chebeya and Fidèle Bazana, two human rights defenders murdered by the police on June 1, 2010 continues to haunt people’s minds. Antoine Mwiyande is one of the people who threatened and tried to silence Paul Mwilambwe Londa, the only eyewitness to the double murder of human rights defenders at the national police headquarters. From his post, he saw it all. But before his flight abroad he was almost eliminated.
Pressure
Antoine Mwiyande, close to John Numbi cited as the person who facilitated the evacuation of the execution squad to Lubumbashi, continued to put pressure on the witness until the trial of the assassins of Floribert Chebeya and Fidèle Bazana.
ten months in prison
Following the trial of the latter, Paul Mwilambwe Londa was cleared of all suspicion but he in turn took legal action for the threats made by Antoine Mwiyande. The latter admitted to having sent threatening audio messages. The court sentenced him to ten months in prison and a two thousand dollar fine. A verdict that satisfies Paul Mwilambwe.
