The video game has not ceased to inspire the cinema lately. While Uncharted is a hit at the box office, The Last of Us wraps up filming for release on HBO in 2023, PlayStation Studios is preparing a Twisted Metal series, a Jak & Daxter movie, a Ghost of Tsushima feature film and even an adaptation of Gran Turismo, here we learn that the French game A Plague Tale will also be the subject of a transposition on the small screen. It was our colleagues from Ecran Total who released the scoop and specified that it is indeed a French production that will be responsible for bringing this French game to a TV series. It is Mathieu Turi who will be in charge of directing this series, he who has worked a lot in Hollywood as an assistant director on blockbusters such as Inglourious Basterds, GI Joe, Sherlock Holmes (the one with Robert Downey Jr), Red 2 or even Lucy by Luc Besson. Production will also be handled by a local company, Merlin Productions, and its CEO, Fabrice Renault, explains why it is important for France to bring such a project to the screen:

It is fundamental for me that our productions reflect French talents and know-how. A Plague Tale is a game designed in Bordeaux by Asobo that we produce with a company based in Paris; its creators had the opportunity to sell the adaptation in the United States, but they preferred to work with French people: I want to restore that trust in them.

We remind you that the series A Plague Tale (the 2nd episode is in development) tells how Amicia de Rune (15 years old) and her brother Hugo (5 years old) will do everything to survive in a France ravaged by the black plague. It’s 1348, rats have invaded the streets and Hugo seems to be suffering from a rare disease that will prove to be an incredible power. The Asobo studio should have a role in this series adaptation, since the editor Focus Entertainment will be co-producer. We remind you that A Plague Tale Requiem, the sequel, is expected in the course of the year 2022.
